Brunson drives in all five runs in the win
WACO, Texas – Chase Brunson drove in five runs in his final two at-bats to help TCU rally for a 5-4 win in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at Baylor. The junior hit a three-run home run in the eighth and had the game-winning, two-run double in the ninth.
The Rundown
TCU's rally from down four started in the eighth. Cole Cramer led off the inning with a base hit and Sawyer Strosnider drew a walk to put two on with nobody out. Chase Brunson pulled the Frogs within one, lining a home run over the left field wall to make it a 4-3 ballgame.
The comeback was complete in the ninth. Lucas Franco worked a lead-off walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Two more walks loaded the bases with one out. Brunson delivered again with a double off the wall in left center to give the Frogs a 5-4 lead.
Tanner Sagouspe took over in the bottom of the ninth and retired all three he faced to lock up his second save of the year.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after loading the bases with nobody out. A double followed by a walk and bunt singled loaded the bases with nobody out. A passed ball gave the Bears a 1-0 lead and a ground out extended the lead to 2-0.
Baylor double its lead in the fifth. A two-out single was followed by a home run, pushing the deficit to 4-0. Lance Davis retired seven of the last eight batters he faced to keep the game within reach.
Davis turned in yet another solid start. He went seven innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits. He walked two and struck out five. Walter Quinn (3-2) struck out two in his lone inning of work to pick up the win in relief.
