Chase Brunson, Sawyer Strosnider and Tommy LaPour see MLB dreams realized
PHILADELPHIA – TCU Baseball saw three players taken on the first day of the 2026 MLB First-Year Player Draft, as Chase Brunson, Sawyer Strosnider and Tommy LaPour heard their names called on Saturday afternoon.
A pair of Frogs went in the second round as Brunson went 42nd overall to the Washington Nationals, while Strosnider was chosen 66th by the Milwaukee Brewers. To round out the trio, LaPour was chosen by the Twins with the 107th selection in the fourth round.
An honorable mention All-Big 12 performer this season, Brunson ranked second on the team with a .304 batting average. His 52 hits were second on the squad. He co-led the team with 11 doubles and ranked second with 10 home runs. His 51 RBIs on the year were tops on the squad as were his 13 stolen bases.
A three-year starter for the Purple and White, Brunson played in 152 career games. He is a career .306 hitter with 166 hits including 32 doubles, three triples and 26 home runs. He totaled 122 RBIs and stole 27 bases in his career. He was a member of the 2024 Big 12 All-Freshman team and was named a second-team All-Big 12 performer as a sophomore.
Strosnider played in and started 50 games this season, hitting .273. He tied for the team lead with 11 doubles and paced the squad with 13 home runs while ranking second with 47 RBIs. He added 12 stolen bases on the year and boasted a .415 on-base percentage.
Strosnider, the 2025 NCWBA and Perfect Game National Freshman of the Year and Big 12 Freshman of the Year, put together a season for the ages in his debut campaign, posting the first quadruple-double in the NCAA since Utah Valley's Chris Benson accomplished the feat in the 2010 season. He totaled 13 doubles, 10 triples (a school record), 11 home runs and 10 stolen bases.
He was the 11th player since 1990 to accomplish the feat. Notable players to have done it are Jay Patton (1993, Georgia Tech), Todd Walker (1993, LSU), Nomar Garciaparra (1994, Georgia Tech), Bubba Crosby (1997, Rice), Chris Burke (2001, Tennessee) and Rickie Weeks (2001 and 2002, Southern).
Strosnider made 105 starts out of 106 career games played. He was a career .315 hitter with 127 total hits. He notched 24 doubles and 24 home runs and leaves TCU ranking second all-time with 14 triples. He drove in 98 runs and swiped 22 bases.
An injury after his first start of the season limited LaPour to just six appearances on the season. He made four starts on the year and contributed 17 innings in which he fanned 17 batters.
LaPour had a tremendous debut campaign with the Horned Frogs en route to earning All-America accolades. He started 16 games and posted a 3.09 ERA in a team-high 90 1/3 innings. He racked up 88 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .231 batting average.
Combined with his time at Wichita State, LaPour started 36 games as part of 38 career appearances. He posted 15-9 record with a 3.87 ERA and tallied 174 strikeouts in 186 innings of work.
