Gargett homers for TCU
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – No. 9 West Virginia scored three times in the eighth to rally for a 6-4 win over TCU in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon. Kyuss Gargett homered for the Horned Frogs in the loss.
The Rundown
TCU opened up the scoring in the first inning. Colton Griffin singled to lead off the game and scored on a Nolan Traeger double to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead. The Frogs capitalized on a one-out walk to Cole Cramer in the third as the lead grew to 3-0. Kyuss Gargett hit an opposite field home run to extend the TCU lead.
West Virginia got back in the game with a pair of runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning. Nate Stern took over with the bases loaded and got a fly ball to keep the Frogs in front, 3-2. The Mountaineers tied the game at three in the fourth on a lead-off home run.
The Frogs broke the tie and took a 4-3 lead in the sixth. Jack Bell led off the inning with a base hit and was on second with one out. Noah Franco lined a single into right center to put the Frogs in front.
A lead-off walk in the bottom of the eighth started West Virginia on the comeback train. A hit followed and then a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Two wild pitches had the Mountaineers in front 5-4. A two-out single accounted for the final score.
Zack James started for the Frogs and allowed two runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four. Mason Brassfield gave the Frogs 2 1/3 scoreless. He allowed a hit, walked one and struck out three. Tanner Sagouspe (3-3) took the loss after allowing three runs on one hit and three walks in 1/3 of an inning.
