Documentary looks back on TCU's first-ever CWS squad
FORT WORTH - In 2010, the TCU baseball team made history, becoming the first squad in program history to advance to the College World Series. Head down memory lane with head coach Jim Schlosssnagle, Jason Coats, Matt Curry, Bryan Holaday, Steven Maxwell and Matt Purke as they look back on the season that put the baseball program on the map.
The 2010 squad still holds the school record for victories, producing a 54-14 record. Along the way, the team took home the Mountain West Conference regular season title and swept through the conference tournament en route to earning a No. 1 seed and serving as a Regional host. TCU mowed through the regional field that featured Lamar, Arizona and Baylor. The Regional victory set up a Super Regional rematch with Texas. The Longhorns were tabbed the No. 2 National Seed. Behind the left arm of Matt Purke, TCU took a 3-1 victory in Game 1. After a blow-out victory for Texas in Game 2, the stage was set for another Game 3 and Omaha on the line. In the decisive game, Kyle Winkler battled through 7 2/3 innings to earn the win. Offensively, home runs from Aaron Schultz and Bryan Holaday gave the Frogs enough runs to secure the victory.
TCU made a statement in Omaha, posting a 3-2 record in its first-ever trip to the College World Series. The Horned Frogs won their opening game, 8-1, over Florida State. After a tough battle against UCLA, a rematch with Florida State followed. TCU rallied with an eight-run eighth inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Matt Curry, to stay alive. Facing another elimination game, TCU defeated UCLA 6-2 to set up a winner-advance game against the Bruins. UCLA proved too much for the Frogs as they handed TCU a 10-3 loss to end the Frogs run in Omaha.
Schlossnagle was tabbed the National Coach of the Year, while Bryan Holaday was voted as the Johnny Bench Award winner and Matt Purke the National Freshman of the Year.
