Former Frog was the 2010 Johnny Bench Award winner
FORT WORTH – TCU head coach Kirk Saarloos finalized his coaching staff with the addition of former TCU baseball All-American, Bryan Holaday. The 2010 Johnny Bench Award winner will be the bench coach in addition to working with the catchers.
"Bryan is a Horned Frog through and through," said Saarloos. "His experience, leadership, and passion for TCU Baseball make him a tremendous addition to our staff, and we're thrilled to have him back in our dugout!"
A sixth-round draft pick in 2010 by the Detroit Tigers, Holaday had a successful 10-year Major League Baseball career. He made his debut two years into his professional career on June 6, 2012 with the Tigers.
"Coming back to TCU in an official capacity means everything to me," said Holaday. "Anyone who knows me knows I bleed purple — this program shaped who I am, and I'm going to give everything I have to make it even better. This is my dream job, plain and simple. I've been around this program and poured into it where I could, but making this official is something I'll never take for granted. TCU catchers are going to be held to the highest standard — and I can't wait to get to work."
Holaday spent four seasons with the Detroit Tigers from 2012-2015. In 2016, Holaday split the season between the Texas Rangers and the Boston Red Sox. He returned to the Tigers in 2017 before a two-year stint with Miami from 2018-19. Holaday played the 2020 season with Baltimore and wrapped up his career in 2021 in Arizona.
He played 303 career games over the course of his pro career, tallying 173 hits with 35 doubles, two triples and 10 home runs. He drove in 79 runs. Known most for his catching abilities, Holaday posted a .993 fielding percentage in his career and threw out 53 runners trying to steal.
Upon retirement, Holaday stayed involved in baseball coaching select baseball along with little league baseball and softball teams. He also spent time as a private coach for high school and college players while also trying his hand at radio broadcasting for some MLB contests.
A 2022 TCU Block T Hall of Fame inductee, Holaday was part of a program changing era in TCU Baseball. He made his way to TCU in the fall of 2007 after one season at North Central Texas College. He was a three-time all-conference performer and earned second-team All-American honors as a senior.
Holaday was a member of TCU's first-ever NCAA Super Regional Team in 2009 and in 2010 lead TCU to its first-ever College World Series. The 2009 squad was the first team in program history to host an NCAA Regional. They repeated as hosts in 2010 and went on to defeat the tournament's No. 2 National Seed, Texas, in Austin to win the Super Regional.
He played in 187 games over three years and boasted a .325 career batting average. He total 228 hits including 46 doubles, four triples and 28 home runs while driving in 142 runs.
