Strosnider’s home run is the lone run for the Frogs
LOS ANGELES – No. 1 UCLA held the No. 7 TCU offense in check as it locked up the series victory with a 5-1 win on Saturday afternoon. Sawyer Strosnider's home run was the lone run of the contest for the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
Sawyer Strosnider opened the scoring for the Horned Frogs with a solo home run in the first. UCLA had an answer in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of a lead-off single. Two batters later, the tying run crossed the plate.
The Bruins used a similar formula in the second to take a 2-1 lead. A lead-off single followed by a stolen base had the go-ahead run in scoring position. A bloop single gave UCLA a 2-1 lead. The lead grew to three, 4-1, on a two-out, two-run home run in the fourth.
In the seventh, UCLA tacked on another run to push its lead to four, 5-1. Back-to-back walks to open the inning led to the run as the lead-off hitter scored on a base knock. Walter Quinn came on and stifled the rally with a pair of strikeouts to limit the damage to one run.
Lance Davis (0-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in four-plus innings. He struck out five in the outing. Nate Stern allowed a run on two hits, walked two and struck out three ine 2 1/3 innings. Quinn fanned three in his 1 2/3 scoreless on the mound.
