Bell has three extra-base hits and drives in five
ARLINGTON, Texas – Five shutout innings from Louis Rodriguez and a five-RBI night for Jack Bell helped TCU run-rule Kansas with an 11-1 win in eight innings to advance to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship game.
The Rundown
Louis Rodriguez (5-1) took over with two on and nobody TCU leading 4-1 in the fourth. A pair of ground balls ended the threat. He allowed just three hits, walked one (intentionally) and struck out four in five shutout innings. He retired 10 of his last 11 batters faced.
Offensively, TCU quickly responded to a 1-0 first inning deficit with four in the second and never looked back. Noah Franco led off the inning with a walk and Chase Brunson tied the game with a double. Anthony Silva's base knock put the Frogs in front 2-1. Jack Bell provided the insurance tallies with a two-out, two-run double and a 4-1 lead.
TCU added a run on a Cole Cramer sacrifice fly that drove in Sawyer Strosnider for a 5-1 lead. The Jayhawks threatened to get back in the game in the bottom of the frame with a base hit followed by a double to lead off the inning. Rodriguez got out of the jam with a strike out, a pop out and a fly out to leave the bases loaded.
The Frogs put the game out of reach with a six-run eighth. The first six Horned Frogs reached and all six scored. Brunson led off the inning with his third hit of the game and ultimately scored on a wild pitch. Isaac Cadena drove in a run with a base knock. The big blow was a bases-loaded triple from Bell for a 10-1 lead. Cramer provided the 10-run cushion with a base hit.
Mason Brassfield started and went three-plus innings. He allowed a single run on two hits, walked two and struck out five. He had a stretch of seven straight retired to get the game into the fourth.
