
LaPour’s Gem Leads TCU Past Houston

ARLINGTON, Texas – Tommy LaPour tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings of shutout baseball to help lead TCU to a 7-1 win over Houston Thursday night at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. Noah Franco homered and drove in three as part of a two-hit night.
The Rundown
Tommy LaPour (8-2) was outstanding on the mound, turning in his ninth quality start of the season. He was perfect through one out in the fifth and allowed just three base runners in his 6 1/3 innings on the mound. He finished his outing allowing two hits, walking one and striking out six.
TCU's offense got things rolling early with a first-inning tally. Sawyer Strosnider tripled with one out and scored easily on a Cole Cramer infield-single for a 1-0 lead.
Four more runs crossed the plate in the second as the lead grew to 5-0. Isaac Cadena led off the inning with a base hit. A walk and a hit by pitch followed loading the bases. Cramer's infield single created chaos as the Cougars attempted to get outs at first and home and got neither. Two runs scored on the play for a 3-0 lead. Noah Franco followed with a two-run single.
Franco's two-out home run in the fourth pushed the lead to 6-0. The Frogs final tally of the evening came in the seventh. After Chase Brunson stole second, he scored easily on a Nolan Traeger base hit.
For Houston, the Cougars only had three base runners through the first eight innings. In the ninth, the first three hitters reached as Houston ended the shutout bid. Trever Baumler found his rhythm and retired three straight to end the game.
Louis Rodriguez picked up two big outs in the seventh as he took over with a runner on. Cohen Feser retired all three batters he faced.
