FORT WORTH – A trio of home runs in the late innings helped No. 10 TCU to a 5-4 win over San Diego Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. The victory clinches the series for the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
Facing a 2-0 deficit in the sixth, TCU's bats finally came alive. With one on and nobody out, Brayden Taylor launched his fourth home run of the season to right, tying the game at two. A couple batters later, the Horned Frogs were on top courtesy of an Austin Davis home run to left.
TCU continued the power surge in the seventh. After a two-out walk to Taylor and a pitching change, Kurtis Byrne ambushed the first offering and sent it sailing over the left center field fence for a 5-2 TCU lead.
San Diego did not go quietly into the night as the Toreros made it interesting in the ninth. A bases-loaded, two out single made it a 5-4 game. Louis Rodriguez got a fly out to end the game, locking up his second save in as many days.
The Torerors picked up solo runs in the second and sixth innings. A lead-off double came around to score in the second, while a two out error in the sixth turned into a 2-0 lead.
Cam Brown allowed a run on three hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out five in the no-decision. Sam Stoutenborough (1-0) earned the win in relief. He allowed an unearned run on one hit in 1 2/3 innings.
