
TCU Drops Series-Opener To San Diego

FORT WORTH – San Diego put up crooked numbers in each of the first five innings en route to a 14-2 victory over No. 10 TCU Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Freshman Jax Traeger made his collegiate debut and tossed five innings of relief.
The Rundown
San Diego jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on a two-out, bases-clearing double. The runs kept coming for the Toreros as they picked up two runs each in the second and third to push the lead to 7-0. Three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth pushed the Torero lead to 14-0.
Jax Traeger took over on the mound in the fifth and calmed the storm. After giving up a run in his first inning of work, Traeger put up zeros in each of the final four innings. He finished the night with five innings pitched. He allowed five hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out four.
TCU's runs came in the sixth and ninth. Tre Richardson singled home Elijah Nunez in the sixth to break up the shutout. A bases-loaded sacrifice fly from Owen Blackledge accounted for the final score.
Ryan Vanderhei (1-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on five hits. He walked three and struck out five in three innings of work.
