TCU overcame an early 5-0 deficit
The Rundown
Lamar opened up a 5-0 lead after two innings of play. The Cardinals used a four-spot in the first to take early control. Cade Nelson was able to keep it four runs with an inning-ending double play. A passed ball with the bases loaded in the second added Lamar's fifth run.
TCU started inching its way back into the game with a run in the third. Jack Bell worked a lead-off walk and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Sawyer Strosnider. Two more runs came around to score in the fourth. Kyuss Gargett was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to drive in the inning's first run. Lucas Franco grounded out to pull TCU within two, 5-3.
The comeback was complete in the fifth as the Frogs struck for a trio of runs. With two on, Chase Brunson's sinking line drive to center bounded past the outfielder for a two-run, game-tying triple. Noah Franco put the Frogs in front with a ground out to second. Strosnider gave the Frogs some breathing room with a one-out RBI-double in the sixth.
Lamar pulled within one in the seventh and had two in scoring position with one out. Noah Franco took over on the mound and struck out the final two in the inning to keep the Frogs in front, 7-6.
The Frogs got the run back in the bottom of the eighth. Kyuss Gargett doubled with two out and pinch runner Preston Gamster scored on a Lucas Franco base knock.
TCU had strong performances out of the bullpen, enabling it to come back. Nolan Johnson pitched three innings, allowing just an unearned run on two hits. In his collegiate debut, Aiden Barrientes (1-0) went two innings, surrendering a run on a hit to earn the win. Walter Quinn needed just one pitch to get an inning-ending double play in the eighth. Nate Stern struck out three of four faced in the ninth for the save.
