Gargett and Liddington homer for the Frogs
The Rundown
UT Arlington sent 13 men to the plate and scored nine times in the first. An error just two batters into the inning proved costly as the Mavericks used the extra out to score six unearned runs.
TCU worked its way back into the game, scoring three runs each in the third and fourth. Preston Gamster scored on a wild pitch, while Lucas Franco grounded out to drive in a run and Rob Liddington hit a sacrifice fly in the third.
Kyuss Gargett led off the fourth with a home run. A two out, two run double from Chase Brunson pulled the Frogs within three, 9-6. Liddington's lead-off home run in the fifth made it a two-run ballgame.
Another error in the sixth helped UT Arlington restore a four-run lead, 11-7. The Mavericks loaded the bases with nobody out aided by a dropped fly ball. TCU looked poised to get out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts, but a walk and a hit batter gifted UTA two more unearned runs.
TCU picked up a run in the ninth on a Nolan Traeger base hit and brought the tying run to the plate, but came up short.
Nolan Johnson (0-1) took the loss allowing seven runs (three earned) on four hits in 1/3 of an inning. A bright spot on the mound was the collegiate debut of Cade Nelson. He tossed four scoreless, allowing just two hits, walking a batter and striking out five.
