Brunson hits first home run of the season
LOS ANGELES – No. 1 UCLA scored multiple runs in three inning en route to handing No. 7 TCU a 10-2 series-opening loss. Chase Brunson hit his first home run of the season in the contest.
The Rundown
UCLA jumped out to a big lead in the second, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring five times. The big blow was a one-out grand slam off the bat of Roch Chowlowsky. The Bruins tacked on a pair of runs with a two-out base hit in the third to extend the lead to 7-0.
Chase Brunson's first home run of the season got the Horned Frogs on the board to lead off the fourth inning.
The Bruins put up another big inning, scoring three times in the fifth. A home run provided the first run of the frame. A lead-off double scored on two wild pitches and another run came around to score on a fielder's choice.
TCU picked up a run in the ninth inning to account for the final score. Lucas Franco drew a two-out, bases loaded walk, allowing Kyuss Gargett to score.
Mason Brassfield (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings of work. He struck out two and walked one. Trever Baumler provided the Frog with 1 2/3 scoreless innings, while Cole Eaton tossed two scoreless in his collegiate pitching debut.
