
Big Ninth Propels TCU Past Utah

Frogs score nine in the ninth
The Rundown
TCU was down to its final three outs and trailing 5-4 when the bats came to life. Back-to-back singles from Isaac Cadena and Jack Bell followed by a walk to Karson Bowen loaded the bases with nobody out. With one out, nine straight Frogs reached base. Cole Cramer's two-run single flipped the lead in favor of the Frogs, 6-5.
Noah Franco doubled in a run and Cramer scored on a wild pitch for an 8-5 lead. Cole Eaton singled home two more runs. Bell worked a bases-loaded walk and Bowen capped the scoring with a two-run single and a 13-5 lead.
It was a see-saw battle in the early innings as the teams traded runs. TCU took a 1-0 lead in the first after Bowen led off the game with a double. He scored on a Franco base hit. In the second, Nolan Traeger tripled and scored on an Anthony Silva sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
The Utes tied the game with three straight two-out hits in the second, but the Frogs answered with two in the third. Sawyer Strosnider put the Frogs on top with his 10th home run of the season. Chase Brunson's base hit with runners on the corners extended the lead to 4-2. Utah scored once in the third and twice in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.
Louis Rodriguez (4-1) took over with a runner on and one out in the fifth and stemmed the tied. He pitched 3 2/3 scoreless, allowing three hits and striking out two to earn the win in relief. Tommy LaPour started and allowed five runs on 10 hits. He struck out three in 4 1/3 innings in the no-decision.

With the win, TCU improves to 36-16 overall and 18-10 in league play. Game 2 of the series is set for Friday night at 7 p.m. Caedmon Parker will get the start for the Horned Frogs. The contest will be televised on ESPN+.
