Franco homers for the Horned Frogs
FORT WORTH – A two-out, bases-loaded walk in the 10th proved to be the difference as DBU handed No. 25 TCU a 6-5 loss at Lupton Stadium Tuesday night. Jack Arthur's pinch-hit, two-run double in the eighth forced extra innings.
The Rundown
The first two DBU hitters reached to lead-off the 10th. Cohen Feser (1-1) retired the next two batters, but a walk loaded the bases. Cody Drebeck worked his second bases-loaded walk of the night to drive in the go-ahead run. TCU had a chance in the bottom of the 10th with two on and two out, but couldn't get the run across.
TCU opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first. Karson Bowen led off the game with a triple and scored on Sawyer Strosnider's double. Cole Cramer grounded out to drive in Strosnider for a 2-0 lead.
DBU cut the lead in half in the sixth, taking advantage of a lead-off single to tie the game. The Frogs restored their two-run lead in the bottom on a Noah Franco home run.
The Patriots took their first lead of the game with three runs in the seventh as the first five batters in the frame reached. Drabeck's first bases-loaded walk tied the game and a ground out gave the Patriots the 4-3 lead. They added another run in the eighth to make it a 5-3 contest.
TCU battled back in the bottom of the eighth. Walks to Cramer and Chase Brunson put the tying runs on base. Jack Arthur worked the count full and delivered a double to deep left field, tying the game at five.
Trever Baumler started and pitched the game into the sixth. He retired the first 11 batters he faced and allowed just two base runners through five. He finished the night allowing a run on three hits, walking one and striking out five.
