The Rundown
TCU grabbed opened up the scoring in the fourth inning. Josh Watson and Michael Landestoy put together a pair of long at-bats that resulted in base hits. Landestoy's ball trickled through a diving left side of the infield allowing Watson to make it to third. During the ensuing at-bat, the DBU relief pitcher was called for a balk allowing Watson to score.
The lead didn't hold as the Patriots stormed back in the bottom of the inning. A lead-off double eventually came around to score on a one-out base hit. Five hits in the frame ultimately helped Dallas Baptist build a 3-1 advantage.
In the seventh, TCU inched closer with another run. A.J. Balta worked a lead-off walk and raced home on a double off the bat of Conner Shepherd to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
The TCU pitching staff pitched in and out of trouble throughout the game. Dallas Baptist stranded 13 runners on base. The Patriots left two runners on in five innings.
Russell Smith started for the Frogs, allowing a run on two hits in 3 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out four. James Notary (0-2) took the loss after allowing a pair of runs on four hits in 2/3 of an inning. Caleb Sloan pitched a scoreless inning, while Charles King tossed two scoreless frames. Augie Mihlbauer and Cal Coughlin combined to pitch a scoreless eighth inning.
