
Trio Of Frogs Drafted On Day 2

FORT WORTH -- Austen Wade, Evan Skoug and Brian Howard were selected in the fifth, seventh and eighth rounds, respectively on Day 2 of the 2017 MLB First Year Player Draft.
The Cleveland Indians took Wade with their fifth-round pick. The junior from Midland, Texas, has put together another banner year for the Horned Frogs. Wade paces the squad with a .342 batting average as the lead-off hitter. He leads the team with 78 hits and 47 walks.
For his career, Wade has started 118 games as part of 133 games played. He owns a .311 career batting average with six home runs and 64 RBIs.
Skoug was tabbed by the Chicago White Sox in the seventh round. A junior from Libertyville, Ill., Skoug is one of three Horned Frogs to have started all 63 games this season. He leads the team with 20 home runs and 67 RBIs.
Over the course of his career, Skoug has appeared in 194 games with 193 starts. He owns 215 career hits and 45 doubles. His 36 career home runs and 164 RBIs are fifth-most all-time in program history.
Howard, a 17th round pick in 2016, improved his stock as he was picked in the eighth round by the Oakland Athletics. TCU's first-ever pitcher to post back-to-back 10-win seasons, Howard leads the team with an 11-3 record in 18 starts this season. He paces the team with 101 strikeouts in 98 innings pitched.
In his career, Howard is 25-5 in 61 appearances. He boasts a 3.52 ERA in 255 2/3 career innings pitched with 254 strikeouts.
During his 14 seasons as TCU's head coach, Jim Schlossnagle has seen 69 players drafted by 26 organizations.
