FORT WORTH – Collegiate Baseball has ranked TCU's 2016 recruiting class eighth nationally. TCU welcomed 12 newcomers to the squad this fall. Three members of the recruiting class were drafted this past June, but chose college over beginning their professional careers.
"This is a great statement on the ability level of the incoming class as well as the hard work put in by our coaching staff, led by Kirk Saarloos," said head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "Although we return the bulk of the 2016 team, we expect several of the new players to make an impact on some level during the 2017 season."
TCU signed 11 freshmen and had one junior college transfer. Seven of the 12 signees hail from the state of Texas. The class features eight pitchers and four position players.
Headlining the group of recruits is left-handed pitcher, Nick Lodolo. The freshmen from LaVerne, Calif., was the 41st overall draft pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Major League Baseball draft this past June.
Dion Henderson, another left-handed pitcher from Detroit, Mich., was a 28th round pick of the Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Trey Morris from Katy, Texas, was a 40th round selection of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Also making their way to campus this fall were Charles King (RHP; Coppell, Texas) who was a first-team Perfect Game All-American; Jake Eissler (RHP; Littleton, Colo.), a first-team all-conference performer, Haylen Green (LHP; Lufkin, Texas), a first-team all-league honoree, Texas 6A MVP Zach Humphrey's (C; Midlothian, Texas); Cal Coughlin (RHP; Lake Forest, Ill.), a Perfect Game third-team All-American; Bryan Sturges (UT; Katy, Texas), a first-team all-district performer, Alec Creel (RHP; Wake Forest, N.C.), Zack Arambula (OF; San Antonio, Texas) and North Central Texas transfer Austin Ingraham (OF; Fort Worth, Texas).
