FORT WORTH, Texas -- Two TCU baseball players were selected Wednesday on the final day of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft as shortstop Keaton Jones went in the 15th round to the Detroit Tigers and pitcher Mitchell Traver was a 28th-round pick by the St. Louis Cardinals.
The eight Horned Frogs drafted overall tied a school record for TCU set in 2011.
Jones is the third Horned Frog selected by the Tigers this season. Detroit drafted pitchers Tyler Alexander and Trey Teakell in the second and ninth rounds, respectively.
Jones is TCU's career leader in games played (247), sacrifice bunts (42) and assists (755). The 247 contests, which represent every TCU game the last four seasons, lead all active players nationally. It broke the TCU games played mark previously held by St. Louis Cardinals' All-Star Matt Carpenter (241).
A Laguna Beach, Calif., native, Jones has earned All-Big 12 recognition the last two seasons. He is tied for second on TCU this year with a career-high 39 RBIs. He is batting .256 with a career-best two home runs while committing just six errors for a .979 fielding percentage.
Traver pitched four innings of scoreless and hitless relief, while striking out six, in Monday's 5-4, 16-inning victory over Texas A&M, sending TCU to its second straight College World Series appearance and third in the last six seasons. The win improved Traver's record to 9-2. He has a 1.60 ERA with a .179 opponent batting average. He has allowed just 45 hits in 73 innings, while striking out 73 and walking just 24. He received All-Big 12 accolades
A redshirt sophomore from Sugar Land, Texas, Traver was drafted for the second time. He was a 39th-round pick by the Houston Astros after his senior year at Houston Christian High School.
During his 12 seasons as TCU's head coach, Jim Schlossnagle has seen 62 players drafted by 24 organizations.
