Baylor scored the game-winning run without the benefit of a hit in the top of the ninth. A walk, followed by a wild pitch and a passed ball had the go-ahead run at third base with nobody out. With runners on the corners, Adam Toth hit a long sacrifice fly to right that drove in the eventual winning run.
Alex Young started for the Horned Frogs and allowed three runs on six hits, walked one and struck out three in the no-decision. Preston Guillory retired all three batters he faced in the sixth. Trey Teakell was touched for two runs on three hits and struck out one in 1 2/3 innings. Riley Ferrell (1-2) took the loss after giving up an unearned run on three walks in 1/3 of an inning. Brian Trieglaff retired the two batters he faced in the ninth.
Baylor jumped out to an early lead in the first. With two outs, Duncan Wendel lined a single up the middle. Cameron Esthay put the Bears on top 2-0 with a home run over the right field fence.
TCU battled back to tie the game in the second. With one on and one out, back-to-back singles from Keaton Jones and Derek Odell loaded the bases. Cody Jones tied the game with a base hit over the leaping shortstop.
The Frogs took their first lead of the game in the fourth. A walk to Keaton Jones started the inning. Odell followed with a base hit to put two on with nobody out. Cody Jones hit a hot-shot down the right field line to drive in Keaton Jones for a 3-2 lead. With one out, Connor Wanhanen grounded out to push the lead to two, 4-2.
Baylor wasted little time cutting into the deficit as Jonathan Ducoff opened the fifth with a solo home run to left field. The Bears looked to be threatening to tie the game after a one-out double had the tying run on base. A grounder to Odell turned into an inning-ending 535 double play as Adam Toth took off for third on the throw to first. Jeremie Fagnan's relay back to third was in time to end the Baylor threat.
TCU picked up a two-out run in the sixth to regain its two-run lead, 5-3. Wanhanen led off the inning with a base hit and moved to second on an errant pick-off throw. Hustling down the line with two outs, Nolan Brown beat out a ground ball hit towards right. Running all the way from second, Wanhanen scored as Brown was called safe.
The Bears began their comeback in the top of the seventh as their power surge continued. With two outs, Logan Brown lined a home run to the left field bleachers to pull back within one, 5-4.
Baylor's comeback was complete in the eighth. A two-out single from Darryn Sheppard moved the tying run to second. A walk to Matt Menard followed to load the bases. Ferrell's 2-1 offering to Justin Arrington ricocheted into foul territory, allowing Esthay to score the tying run.
The loss drops TCU's record to 43-10 on the season. The Frogs fall into the loser's bracket at the tournament. They will face the tournament's four-seed, Texas Tech, Thursday morning at 9 a.m. The game will be televised on FOX College Sports and FSSW+.
