TCU stretches its Big 12 winning streak to 11 straight and its overall winning streak to nine games. The Frogs have not lost a weekend game since dropping the series finale to Kansas State on April 12.
The only blemish on Alexander's line was a two-out, two-run home run in the fourth inning. He tossed eight innings, held Oklahoma to just six hits and struck out two to improve to 5-2 on the season. Preston Guillory came on with a runner on first and nobody out in the ninth. He gave up a hit, but got a game-ending double play to lock up his second save of the season.
TCU took advantage of a wild Alec Hanson in the second inning to open up a 2-0 lead. Evan Skoug drew a lead-off walk. With two outs, Crain doubled to right center to give the Frogs the lead. Evan Williams bounced a single through the infield to extend the Frog lead.
Alexander was cruising into the fourth having allowed just one hit in the second. Kolbey Carpenter lined a single into right and the hot-hitting Anthony Hermelyn tied the game with one swing of the bat, homering to left center.
Another walk to Skoug, this one with one out, proved costly to the Sooners. Nolan Brown doubled with two outs to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Crain dropped a single into right center to drive in the go-ahead runs, giving TCU a 4-2 lead.
The Sooners couldn't muster much offense against Alexander. Following the home run, the sophomore retired nine of the next 10 batters he faced before allowing a lead-off single in the eighth. Hunter Haley made it as far as third, but Alexander got Craig Aikin to ground out to short to end the inning.
A lead-off single in the ninth again brought the tying run to the plate for the Sooners. Guillory came on and got a ground ball that erased the lead runner. Hermelyn followed with a base hit to put runners on the corners but Sheldon Neuse bounced the Guillory offering to Derek Odell at third and he started a game-ending 5-4-3 double play.
With the victory, TCU finishes the regular season on a nine-game winning streak. The Frogs improve to 43-9 overall and finish their Big 12 championship campaign with an 18-5 league record. TCU will begin postseason play Wednesday at the Big 12 Championships at 12:30 against the eighth place finisher in the league standings.
