OKLAHOMA CITY - TCU built and 8-0 lead but had to hang on for an 8-5 victory in its opening game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament. Jordan Kipper threw seven shutout innings and Keaton Jones led the offensive attack with three RBIs.

Kipper (8-2) was outstanding for the Horned Frogs as he limited Baylor to three hits and just six total base runners in seven innings. He walked one, hit a batter and struck out seven. Riley Ferrell came on in the ninth with the tying run on deck and one out to pick up his 12th save of the season.

TCU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Cody Jones worked a seven-pitch walk to open the frame. Derek Odell doubled down the left field line to put two in scoring position. Boomer White dropped down a bunt single to drive in the first run of the game. The inning ended on a strange play as Garrett Crain flew out to center field. He was credited for a sacrifice fly as Odell tagged up and scored before White was thrown out at second for failing to tag on the fly ball.

Another lead-off walk helped the Frogs add to their lead in the third. Kyle Bacak drew the free pass and moved to second on a passed ball. Cody Jones laid down a perfect bunt single to put runners on the corners. Odell looped a single over the shortstop's head to drive in Bacak for a 3-0 lead.

For the third time in four innings, the Frogs worked a lead-off walk and turned it into a run. Crain was the recipient of the walk and he promptly stole second. Jerrick Suiter lined a single down the right field line to drive in Crain for a 4-0 TCU lead.

TCU broke the game open in the sixth as it put up a three spot to take a 7-0 lead. Kevin Cron bounced a single through the left side to open the inning. Crain followed with a base hit and a walk to Suiter loaded the bases. A dropped ball in left field allowed the first run of the frame to score and Keaton Jones lined up a single up the middle to drive in two more.

Kipper faced his lone jam in the seventh inning. A lead-off walk followed by a one-out base hit and error had the bases full of Bears. Back-to-back strikeouts kept the Bears off the scoreboard.

The Frogs tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh to open up an 8-0 lead. With two outs and Suiter on second, Keaton Jones lined a single into center field to collect his third RBI of the contest.

Baylor broke up the shutout in the eighth on a pair of two-out doubles. Brett Doe lined a two-out double down the right field. Pinch runner Lane Kelly scored Baylor's first run of the game on an Adam Toth double to make it an 8-1 game.

The Bears tried to rally in the ninth as they batted around and scored four times, bringing the tying run to the plate. The big blow in the frame was a two-run double from Lawton Langford. Ferrell gave up a base hit upon entering the game then got a strikeout for the second out before a fly ball ended the game.

TCU improves to 39-15 overall with the victory. The Horned Frogs advance in the winnner's bracket and will face the tournament's sixth-seed, West Virginia Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on FOX College Sports.
