FORT WORTH, Texas -- Head coach Jim Schlossnagle has announced the Horned Frogs' 2010 schedule. The 56-game regular-season slate includes 28 games at Lupton Stadium and Williams-Reilly Field and is spread over the new 14 week period, approved last spring by the NCAA. Opening day for 2010 is February 19 against 2009 NCAA Regional participant, Sam Houston State. In all, the Frogs will play 22 games against opponents that appeared in the NCAA Tournament a year ago, including one game against Rice, who advanced to the Super Regionals as well three contests against College World Series participant, Cal State Fullerton.
"This is another great schedule that should both challenge our team on a weekly basis and hopefully prepare us for a successful postseason," remarked Schlossnagle. "Our league moved to number seven in the RPI last year and I think that will only continue to improve. It's important to our players, coaches and fans that we play the very best schedule we can possibly play.
"It's great for college baseball to get back to playing more four game weeks versus the compacted schedule we had the last two years," said Schlossnagle. "I hope our fans understand the importance of supporting our players with their attendance. After hosting the regional last year, I'll be disappointed if our season ticket base doesn't drastically improve...and I think it will."
The Frogs will open the season at home for the first time since the 2008 season when they host Sam Houston State, Feb. 19-21. A trip to Waco for the first of a home-and-home series against Baylor follows on Feb. 23.
"Sam Houston State has been an extremely successful program since Coach Mark Johnson took over a few years ago," commented Schlossnagle. "They have been a consistent NCAA Regional participant, including a regional final two years ago and are expecting a really good club back this year."
TCU's annual series against Cal State Fullerton begins Feb. 26 as the Frogs head to Fullerton for the three-game series. A year ago, the Frogs opened the season with a 2-1 series win at Goodwin Field.
"We really enjoy playing Fullerton," said Schlossnagle. "They had a scheduling mix-up with another school, so we agreed to help them out by going back to California this year. They will return the trip in 2011 and we are set to continue the series through 2013. You always know where you stand after you play the Titans, what you may be good at and what you need to improve on."
After a brief stop at home to face UT San Antonio on March 2, the Frogs head to Houston for the first of two trips on the season. For the first time since 2006, TCU will take part in the Minute Maid College Classic. A match-up with Texas Tech on March 5 kicks off the tournament. Day two will see the Frogs play against perennial NCAA participant, Missouri, while, TCU will wrap up the tournament against 2009 NCAA Super Regional participant, Rice.
"The Minute Maid Tournament is easily the most popular and challenging college baseball tournament in the country and we are very grateful for the opportunity to compete against the great programs that will be there," remarked Schlossnagle. "I really hope all of the TCU fans and alumni that live in the Houston area will come out to see us during our two trips down there this year."
A meeting with cross-town rival, UT Arlington, on March 9 concludes a stretch of eight out of nine games on the road.
March 12 marks the series-opener against Texas Tech. The three-game set will mark the first weekend series against the Red Raiders since the 2004 season.
"Coach Dan Spencer and I have become good friends in the last few years and we really feel like TCU and Tech is a great, traditional rivalry and one that should be played each year," stated Schlossnagle. "Our plan is to play Tech home and home in a three game series every year for a long time."
A midweek contest at NCAA Regional participant, Oral Roberts, on March 16 gets the Frogs set for the opening of Mountain West Conference play on March 18. TCU will begin defense of its conference title against BYU in the first of two series against the Cougars
Monday, March 22 kicks off a week in which the Frogs will play five games. A road trip to Dallas Baptist for the first of two meetings gets the week started followed by a home meeting against 2009 NCAA Regional participant, Texas State, on March 23. The busy week wraps up with a three-game series at Air Force March 26-28.
A season-long five-game home stretch commences March 30 as the Frogs wrap up the season series against UT Arlington. The San Diego State Aztecs, a 2009 NCAA at-large selection, come to town April 1-3 and the home stand finishes with the first of two meetings against NCAA participant, Oklahoma, on April 6.
The Frogs will take a break from league play as they make their second trip to Houston for a series against former conference rival, Houston. The three-game series is slated to begin April 9.
TCU's annual meeting with Texas A&M returns to Lupton Stadium on April 13 at 6:30 p.m.
The Frogs return to conference play at BYU beginning April 15. The three-game series runs through April 17.

Air Force comes to town for a three-game set beginning May 14, followed by a trip to San Antonio for a meeting against UTSA on May 18.
