Baseball America Tabs Recruiting Class No. 9

FORT WORTH, Texas - Baseball American has tabbed the TCU Baseball team's 2008 recruiting class as the ninth-best in the nation. This marks the second time in school history that the Horned Frogs have garnered a top-10 recruiting class, the other coming in 2004 when the Frogs hauled in the third-best class in the nation.
"This is great recognition of the hard work of our staff led by Todd Whitting," raved Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle. "This class is very talented on the field and they have also performed at a high level in the classroom. With hard work, we hope these new players can help us reach our goal of winning in Omaha."
Although smallish in size with just 11 recruits, it is loaded with talent. The class features 10 freshman and one junior college transfer, Matt Curry (IF, Red Oak, Texas), who attended Howard College. All but one of the incoming players hail from the state of Texas, the lone exception is Brance Rivera, an infielder from Muscatine, Iowa. The other incoming freshmen are: Jason Coats (OF, Plano, Texas), Taylor Featherston (INF, Katy), Travis Jenkins (P, Alvin), Walker Kelly (P, Fort Worth), Kaleb Merck (P/INF, Keller), Erik Miller (P, Georgetown), Kyle Winkler (P, Sugar Land), Jantzen Witte, (P, Arlington) and Davy Wright (UT, Aledo).
Three members of the class were drafted in June but elected to head to TCU. Curry and Winkler were selected in the 37th round while Kelly was tabbed in the 50th round.
The 11 newcomers are comprised of five pitchers, four infielders, one outfielder and one utility player, all of whom expect to heavily compete for regular playing time.
