FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU baseball program's recruiting efforts were recognized by Collegiate Baseball as they ranked the Frogs' recruiting class 21st in the nation. TCU has the second-highest recruiting class in the state of Texas, behind only the University of Texas and ahead of Texas Tech, Rice and Baylor. The Frogs are the only Mountain West team to be represented in the rankings.
The recruiting efforts, led by associate head coach Todd Whitting, yielded eight freshmen, four junior college transfers and two four-year transfers. The Frogs were hit hard by the June Major League draft as they lost four recruits, but the addition of Bryan Kervin, a transfer from Arizona, Brent Allar, an 11th-round pick in the 2005 Major League Draft, and Jake Arrieta, a 26th-round choice, pushed the Frogs into the top-25 in the rankings.
The recruiting class also included Corey Steglich (IF, Fort Worth, Texas/Southwest), Taylor Cragin (RHP, Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood), Ben Carruthers (IF, Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown), Matt Vern (C/OF, Lake Jackson, Texas/Brazoswood), Hunt Woodruff (C/OF, Dallas, Texas/Highland Park), Derek VerHagen (LHP/1B, Rockwall, Texas/Rockwall), Aaron Smith (C/3B, McKinney, Texas/McKinney) and Eric Marshall (RHP, Barrington, Ill./Barrington). Also transferring to TCU were Steven Trout (IF, Hooks, Texas/Texarkana), Donald Furrow (LHP, Woomera, South Australia/Weatherford) and Dillon Farish (RHP, Midland, Texas/UT-Arlington).
"It's nice to be recognized for hard work," remarked TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "Coach Whitting and the rest of the staff did a admirable job of rebounding after the Major League Baseball draft hit us hard to sign some good players this summer. The true test will be how these new players perform this spring."
