FORT WORTH, Texas - A two-out single of the bat of Austin Adams in the bottom of the seventh propelled the Purple team to a 2-1 victory as the evened the series at two games apiece. Matt McGuirk led the Purple offense with a two-hit day, while Aaron Smith was 2-for-2 at the plate for the White team.
Donald Furrow for the White squad and Omar Arif for Purple matched each other pitch for pitch through the first three innings. Furrow surrendered just two hits, while Arif gave up just a lone walk in the second inning.
The White squad broke through in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. An error by the first baseman allowed Steven Trout to reach base with one out. After a Keith Conlon double moved Trout to third, Teddy Kreder delivered with a sacrifice fly to put his team on top.
Purple didn't muster much of a threat before they broke through to knot the game at one in the bottom of the sixth. Matt McGuirk led off the inning with double off of Furrow. Adams moved McGuirk to third with a sacrifice bunt, but Furrow got Andrew Walker to ground out, holding McGuirk at third with two outs. Furrow looked to be out of trouble when he induced a ground ball off the bat of Hunt Woodruff, but the third baseman was unable to handle it and McGuirk crossed home with the tying run.
Brent Allar came on for the Purple squad and held the White squad in check, setting up Adams gamewinning hit. Justin Roland drew a lead-off walk off of reliever Derek VerHagen. Chase Kiecke moved him to second with a sac bunt. A wild pitch with two outs moved Roland to third and he came around to score on Adams single to center.
Arif threw five innings, surrendering an unearned run on two hits. Furrow went six innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits. He struck out three and walked two.
The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. Purple will send Chase Perry to the mound to face Brad Furnish for the White team.
