CHICAGO - TCU left fielder Chris Meeks (Brownwood, Texas/Brownwood), who banged out 10 hits to lead a Horned Frog offense that registered an overall .441 team batting average in three games versus Louisville this past weekend, has been named Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. He shares the award with Jeff Cook of Southern Miss.
The honor marks the league-leading eighth time this season that a Horned Frog has been recognized as a C-USA Player of the Week.
Meeks collected at least three hits in each game against the Cardinals en route to 10 hits in 14 at-bats in the series (.714 batting average). He also added a triple in each contest, raising his league-leading total to seven for the season.
The senior opened the weekend by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a walk in the Frogs' 10-6 season-opening loss to Louisville.
An evening later, Meeks matched a career high with four hits and scored a career-best four runs in TCU's record-breaking 30-2 victory. He also added a pair of RBI and two walks to reach base safely six of the eight times he went to the plate in the romp, in which the Frogs' set or matched five school records and four C-USA marks.
Meeks concluded his spectacular weekend by collecting three more hits, including a double to go along with his third triple of the weekend, to lead TCU to the series victory with an 8-7 win. He also scored twice and drove in a run in Sunday's victory, bringing his series totals in those categories to nine and three, respectively.
In all, Meeks' 17 total bases in three games gave him a 1.214 slugging percentage for the series while he also reached base at a .765 clip on the weekend.
Meeks and the rest of the Horned Frogs open postseason play Wednesday when they face the very same Louisville Cardinals in the opener of the Conference USA Tournament in New Orleans. First pitch between the No. 2-seeded Frogs and seventh-seeded Cards is slated for 4 p.m. at Tulane's Turchin Stadium.
