HONOLULU (March 11) - Randon Ho allowed two runs, one unearned, in nine innings to lead Hawaii to a 3-2 win over TCU Saturday at Rainbow Stadium.
Ho allowed only six hits and two walks, striking out eight in the complete game performance. The outing was the second straight complete game by the Hawaii pitching staff. TCU starter Chris Bradshaw matched Ho for the first five innings. Bradshaw allowed two runs, one earned on seven hits in seven innings. David Tombrella allowed one run on two hits in the eighth inning.
Hawaii scored single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. In the sixth, Kenn Wakakuwa led the inning off with a single, advanced to second and third on back-to-back groundouts, then scored on a passed ball. The Frogs tied the game in the seventh, when Erick Macha doubled, stole third and then scored on Marshall Wilson's sacrifice fly.
The Rainbows increased the lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning on Scooter Martines' two-out single that scored Rory Pico. Hawaii added an important insurance run in the eighth on a pair of hits, including a two-out RBI-single by Pat Scalabrini.
The Frogs rally in the ninth fell one run short. Tom Bates was hit by the pitch to start the inning. With one out, Erick Macha singled to left field, sending pinch-runner Rudy Rivera to second. Marshall Wilson reached on a fielders' choice, retiring Macha. However, Pico's throw to first was wild, allowing Rivera to score and sending Wilson to second. After pinch hitter Mickey Scala walked, Levi Groomer grounded out to end the game.
Mark Hamilton and Macha each had two hits in the game. Wakakuwa led the Rainbows with three hits. The series will conclude with a single-game on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. (7 p.m. central time).
