WACO (Feb. 19) -- Sophomore Steve Dorneman smacked his first career home run to bring in three runs and lift the Baylor baseball team to a 4-3 victory over TCU on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Bears improve to 8-2 on the season, while the Horned Frogs fall to 4-7.
TCU got on the board first, scoring in the second inning when first baseman Walter Olmstead slugged a double to bring in Tom Bates.
In the seventh inning, Matt Williams reached base on a fielder's choice and Mike Huggins walked to put runners at first and second. Dorneman blasted a three-run shot to right center for his first career home run to put the Bears up 3-2.
Baylor scored again in the bottom of the eighth when Williams doubled and was driven in by a Mike Huggins single on the next at-bat.
Junior right hander Kyle Evans (3-0) earned the win for Baylor, going seven innings and giving up two runs on seven hits. Freshman Zane Carlson came in for two full innings, giving up one run on two hits for his second save of the season.
For the third time in two days, right fielder Jaime Bubela threw out a runner at home.
Baylor and TCU will meet again Sunday in Waco. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the Baylor Ballpark.
