Linahan joins staff as the new hitting coach
FORT WORTH – TCU head coach Kirk Saarloos has announced the addition of Danny-David Linahan to the coaching staff. He will serve as the hitting coach for the program.
Linahan makes his way to Fort Worth after spending the last two seasons at Texas State where he served in a similar role. Additionally, he devoted his time on the field coaching the catchers and the outfielders.
"TCU Baseball has been one of the premier programs in college baseball, built on generations of players and coaches that have competed at the highest level," said Linahan. "The opportunity to compete for championships, develop hitters and represent this university is something we're extremely excited about. We are thrilled to return home to the Fort Worth area and do our part in adding to the legacy. We can't wait to get started."
This past season, Linahan and the Texas State Bobcats earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where they went 1-2 in the College Station Regional. The Bobcats were one of the most prolific home run hitting teams in the country, ranking in the top 10 nationally with 116 home runs, a mark that also set a school and Sun Belt Conference record. The squad also ranked in the Top 40 nationally with 119 doubles.
Individually, the Bobcats produced some of the best offensive seasons in program history. Rashawn Galloway set the Texas State single-season doubles record (27) and record the third-longest hitting streak (23 games) in program history. Jaquae Stewart set the school mark for grand slams in a season (4). Dawson Park was a semifinalist for the
Linahan joined the Texas State after two seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization. While with the Twins, he served as a Major League Assistant Hitting Coach. He oversaw offensive game planning while contributing to hitter development through advanced opponent analysis, biomechanics, functional movement, and mental performance strategies.
During his tenure, the Twins captured the 2023 American League Central Division title and earned the franchise's first postseason victory since 2004. Minnesota's offense showcased exceptional depth, producing twelve players with double-digit home runs, seven of whom set career highs. He also played a key role in the development of emerging stars such as Royce Lewis, who set a Twins rookie record with five grand slams in just 66 games.
Prior to Minnesota, Linahan spent the 2022 season with the Cleveland Guardians as a full-time minor league hitting coach, primarily working at the Arizona Complex. He developed rookie-level players, international signees making their U.S. debuts, and newly drafted prospects, while also assisting at the High-A, Double-A and Triple-A levels later in the season. During his time with Cleveland nine hitters made their Major League debut within a calendar year- a franchise high mark.
Linahan began his professional coaching career with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. In 2020, he served as a minor league player development coach at the Dodgers' Arizona complex before moving to Double-A Tulsa in 2021. There, he assisted with daily hitting and pitching operations, game planning, and practice design. Sixteen players he worked with during that season have since contributed at the MLB level across the league.
Before entering professional baseball, Linahan was the Director of Player Development at Abilene Christian University during the 2019 season and through the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign.
A former collegiate player, Linahan completed his career at Hardin-Simmons University, where he graduated in 2019. He also played at Southwestern Oklahoma State during the 2017 season and began his college career at Frank Phillips Junior College.
