TCU allowed three two-out runs in the game
ABILENE, Texas – TCU had base runners in every inning, but a collection of Abilene Christian pitchers did just enough to keep the Horned Frogs off the board in handing them a 4-1 loss Tuesday night. The Wildcats scored three two-out runs and the Frogs stranded 11 runners on base.
The Rundown
Abilene Christian opened the scoring in the third inning. A one-out double came around to score on a bloop single on the infield. The deficit grew to 3-0 as the Wildcats picked up a pair of two-out runs in the fourth.
The Frogs looked poised to get back in the game as they loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a hit batter in the fifth. Cole Cramer singled home Colton Griffin with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
ACU escaped another TCU threat in the sixth and carried the momentum to the bottom of the frame as it added another run. A lead-off walk followed by a stolen base and a ground out had a runner standing on third with one out. A sacrifice fly made it a 4-1 lead.
TCU had chances in the seventh and the eighth as well, but it left the bases loaded in the seventh and a double play ended the threat in the eighth.
Nolan Johnson (0-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out three in 3 2/3 of an inning.
