Arizona scores game-winner in the ninth
FORT WORTH – Arizona broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the ninth to hand TCU a 4-3 loss Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Trever Baumler and Mason Brassfield combined to record 12 strikeouts in the game.
The Rundown
A lead-off walk followed by a base hit to open the ninth had Arizona in business. A sac bunt moved the runners into scoring position and a sac fly gave the Wildcats the lead.
TCU threatened with a pair of base runners in the bottom of the ninth. Nolan Traeger doubled and moved to third on a walk/wild pitch to Kyuss Gargett. Arizona pitched out of the jam with its 15th strikeout of the night to secure the win.
Arizona opened the scoring in the second as a lead-off doubled scored on a two-out base hit. TCU answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Chase Brunson led off the inning with a hit and moved to third on a Noah Franco double. Brady Dallimore's ground out tied the game at one.
The Wildcats scored a run in the fourth and fifth to open up a 3-1 lead. The fourth inning tally came courtesy of a pair of two-out doubles, while a lead-off walk in the fifth led to the third run.
TCU used some two-out magic of its own in the seventh to get the game tied at three. Nolan Traeger's two-out single made it a 3-2 ballgame and Kyuss Gargett tied the game with a base hit up the middle.
Trever Baumler started and went four innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out three. Mason Brassfield (3-3) was outstanding in relief. He allowed a run on four hits and struck out nine in five innings. His lone walk turned into the game-winning run in the ninth.
