Frogs hit three home runs
FORT WORTH – A strong pitching performance from Lance Davis and three home runs by the Horned Frogs' offense helped TCU to a 5-0 win over Arizona Saturday in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
The Rundown
Lance Davis (3-3) was outstanding over seven innings of work. He allowed just four hits, walked one and struck out seven. He faced just two base runners in scoring position.
Arizona threatened to take an early lead as the first two batters reached in the second. Davis left the runners where they were with three straight strikeouts to end the inning.
A lead-off home run by Brady Dallimore in the bottom of the second gave the Frogs a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats looked poised to tie the game in the third after a lead-off double and one out single had runners on the corners. An interference call on a ground ball turned into an inning-ending double play.
TCU added a two-run home run courtesy of Nolan Traeger to extend its lead to 3-0 in the fifth. Another two-run shot off the bat of Chase Brunson extended the lead to 5-0.
Nate Stern pitched the final two innings of the game. He retired six of the seven batters he faced, recording two strikeouts.
