Davis tosses seven shutout innings
FORT WORTH – Behind seven shutout innings from Lance Davis, TCU evened the series with a 6-0 win over UCF Saturday night at Lupton Stadium. Colton Griffin and Lucas Franco keyed the offense, each driving in two runs.
The Rundown
Lance Davis (1-3) was outstanding in holding league-leading UCF to just two hits and four total base runners over seven innings of work. He never faced more than four batters in an inning and in four innings, he faced the minimum. He finished the night allowing two hits, two walks and striking out five.
The offense proved to be opportunistic, taking advantage of their opportunities when they came along. With one out and runners on the corners, Sawyer Strosnider and Chase Brunson executed a double steal to get the Frogs on the board, 1-0.
TCU tacked on an unearned run in the second. Lucas Franco reached on a one-out single. A passed ball and a wild pitch had him standing on third with one out and he scored on a grounder off the bat of Rob Liddington for a 2-0 lead.
Two hit batters and a walk in the fifth had the bases loaded with two outs. Colton Griffin worked a four-pitch walk to give the Frogs a 3-0 lead. Franco followed with a two-run single to give the Frogs some breathing room, 5-0.
The Frogs added another insurance run in the seventh, taking advantage of a lead-off walk to Brunson. He was on third with one out and scored on a suicide squeeze off the bat of Griffin to make it 6-0.
