Frogs scored nine runs late in the game
The Rundown
Arizona State led off the game with a home run, setting the tone for an offensive outburst that saw it strike for 26 runs on 28 hits. The Sun Devils scored in all but one inning, picking up multiple runs in five of the innings. Four TCU errors contributed to eight unearned runs in the game.
TCU did not go quietly as the bats came to life in the eighth. The Frogs sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven times. Jack Arthur's bases-loaded single broke up the shut out bid for Arizona State. Sawyer Strosnider single in a run and Anthony Silva hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the fourth run in the frame. Back-to-back doubles from Jack Bell and Brody Green drove in three more runs.
Two more runs crossed the plate for the Frogs in the ninth to account for the final score. Arthur scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch and Bell drew a bases-loaded walk.
Mason Brassfield (2-1) took the loss after giving up six runs on seven hits in an inning-plus of work.
Stat of the Game:
28 – TCU allowed a school-record 28 hits in the game, breaking the old record of 26 set twice before and most recently at Baylor on April 22, 2003.
Notes:
• The 26 runs scored by Arizona State matches the school-record for runs allowed, a feat that was accomplished by Southwest Missouri State on April 8, 1990.
• TCU registered double-digit hits for the 10th time this season.
• TCU allowed double-digit runs for just third time this season.
• TCU was outhit for the ninth time this season.
