Silva hits first home run of the season
FORT WORTH – Three solo home runs were key in No. 22 Southern Miss' 5-3 victory over No. 19 TCU Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. Anthony Silva hit his first home run of the season in the loss.
The Rundown
Southern Miss took a lead it would never relinquish on a two-out solo home run in the first. A lead-off single in the third turned into another Golden Eagle run.
TCU cut the deficit in half on a two out solo home run off the bat of Anthony Silva. The Frogs almost tied the game with two outs in the sixth. With runners in motion, Chase Brunson singled, but the ball struck the foot of the runner and brought the inning to a close.
The Golden Eagles pushed their lead to three, 4-1, with back-to-back home runs in the eighth. An unearned run in the ninth gave Southern Miss a 5-1 lead.
The Frogs did not go quietly, bringing the winning run to the plate in the ninth. Brunson led off the inning with a double. Colton Griffin reached on a pinch-hit single to put runners on the corners. A wild pitch plated Brunson to make it 5-2. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases, but Southern Miss wiggled off the hook, bringing in its closer. He retired the only two batters he faced, leaving the tying runs in scoring position. Noah Franco's RBI-ground out accounted for the final score.
Tommy LaPour (1-2) battled for 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits in 4 2/3 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Mason Brassfield struck out three and allowed a run on three hits in three innings of work.

732 – Blake Rogers made his TCU debut in the ninth inning. It was his first appearance in 732 days. He suffered a season-ending injury in his freshman campaign at Baylor and season-ending injury prior to the start of his first year with the Horned Frogs.
