Wood homers twice and drives in three

NORMAN, Okla. – TCU ran its winning streak to seven straight with an 11-7 victory at Oklahoma on Friday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Gene Wood homered twice for the Horned Frogs, while Russell Smith pitched a career-high seven innings.

The Rundown
Gene Wood got the scoring started with a one out home run in the second. Hunter Wolfe doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Porter Brown infield single. Brown scored on a Gray Rodgers groundout to make it a 3-0 ballgame.

Brayden Taylor led off the third with his fifth home run of the year for a 4-0 lead.

Three more runs came around in the fifth as the lead grew to 7-0. Taylor singled home the first run of the inning and scored on a Wolfe infield single. With two outs, head's up base running from Wolfe allowed him to score as Brown beat out another infield single.

TCU and Oklahoma traded two run home runs. Tyler Hardman hit a two run home run in the sixth that was matched by Wood's second home run of the contest, making it a 9-2 contest.

Oklahoma picked up a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to pull within four, 9-5. Haylen Green came on with the tying run on deck and got a strikeout to end the inning.

The Frogs picked up some insurance with two runs in the ninth. Wolfe scored on a wild pitch and Tommy Sacco hit a sacrifice fly for an 11-5 lead. Hardman hit another two home run in the bottom of the ninth to account for the final score.

Russell Smith (5-1) allowed three runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out eight in the win. Green collected his sixth save of the season.
