A walk and a hit batter had the Commodores in business in the first inning. Tyler Alexander looked like he would escape the jam with two quick outs, but a two-out base hit from Brian Reynolds gave Vanderbilt the 1-0 lead.
Four straight singles by the Commodores to open the third made it a 2-0 game as Rhett Wiseman scored on Reynolds second hit of the game. Jeren Kendall pushed the lead to three with a one-out base hit. A base running miscue by Vanderbilt kept the deficit at three as the runner tagging on a fly ball was called out on appeal to end the inning.
TCU got its first two base runners of the night in the fourth on singles from Jeremie Fagnan and Connor Wanhanen. Vanderbilt starter, Walker Buehler, got an inning-ending double play to keep the Frogs off the scoreboard.
Vandy's offense stayed red hot in the fourth as it tacked on two more runs on a Wiseman home run to right field for a 5-0 lead.
Two more runs scored in the fifth as the Commodores took advantage of a lead-off triple from Reynolds. He scored on a Will Toffey base hit and Toffey scored on a sacrifice fly from Jason Delay for a 7-0 lead.
TCU's lone run of the game came in the seventh. Wanhanen drew a lead-off walk and moved to third on a Dane Steinhagen base knock. Derek Odell hit a sacrifice fly to the gap in left center to drive in the run. Keaton Jones followed with a base hit, prompting a pitching change for Vanderbilt. Nolan Brown hit a line drive that was snared by the pitcher to end the threat.
Tyler Alexander (6-3) started for TCU and was touched for three runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings of work. He struck out three and walked one. Brian Trieglaff was touched for two runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings. Preston Morrison allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits in two innings. Riley Ferrell struck out five of the eight batters he faced in pitching the final two innings of the season.
The Frogs bid adieu to eight seniors who led the program to back-to-back appearances in the College World Series. They were apart of three NCAA Super Regional teams and the university's first-ever Big 12 team championship and regular season championship. The season comes to an end with a 51-15 record.
