Cody Jones kick-started the offensive outburst for the Frogs with a lead-off single in the first. He stole second and scored easily on a Connor Wanhanen base hit to put the Frogs in front, 1-0.
A lead-off double from Nolan Brown in the second helped the Frog lead grow to two. He moved to third on a long fly ball off the bat of Keaton Jones and scored on a Derek Odell opposite field base knock.
Stony Brook cut the TCU lead in half with a two-out run in the third. Bobby Honeyman worked a lead-off walk and moved to second on a Malcolm Nachmanoff base hit. Brian Howard got a big double play, but miscommunication in the outfield allowed Toby Handley's fly ball to fall in for an RBI-double, making it a 2-1 game.
TCU nursed the one-run lead to the fifth inning when Garrett Crain drew a lead-off walk. With two on and two out, Skoug launched a line drive, three-run home run into the left field bullpen to give the Frogs a four run lead, 5-1.
Three straight one-out walks had the Seawolves in business in the bottom of the fifth. Preston Guillory came on and after giving up an RBI single, retired the final two hitters keep it a two-run ballgame, 5-3.
Guillory (1-0) was outstanding in relief as he shut down the Seawolves into the eighth inning. After allowing a hit to the first batter he faced, he retired 10 straight. The junior had to wiggle out of a small two-out jam in the eighth after a hit batter and a walk. He got Andruw Gazzola to fly out to end the threat. He finished the afternoon allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out two in 3 2/3 innings of work.
The TCU offense tacked on a trio of runs in the final three innings to make it a five run ballgame, 8-3. Skoug doubled in the seventh and scored on a two-out Brown base hit.
In the eighth, Derek Odell opened the inning with a double off the right field wall. He moved to third on a Cody Jones base hit and scored on a Jeremie Fagnan ground out. Wanhanen's third hit of the afternoon capped the scoring.
Howard turned in a solid start for the Horned Frogs before departing with an injury. He allowed three runs on two hits, walked four and struck out three in 4 1/3 innings.
