TCU Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle
Opening Statement
"I'd like to congratulate Stony Brook on a tremendous season. They're a fun program, I have a lot of respect for their coaching staff and I'm really proud of the way our guys played. Certainly, Preston Guillory calmed the storm there in the middle innings and we had some big two out hits. That one's over with and now it's on to the next one."
On Brian Howard
"He's been batting a little bit of issues, nothing serious, just some numbness. Nothing that's going to keep him from pitching again this season or even this tournament. He's been battling it for a couple of weeks and I thought he did a great job. He's a guy who usually his first 50 pitches are really good. He kind of hits a wall with his endurance, but he did a great job. He threw strikes early. With first and second and nobody out, he got the double play ball. We had a screw up in the outfield, otherwise we would've been out of that inning, but then came back and got the next out. I'm really proud of the way he pitched and got that start. He did a good job of getting us through without burning a guy like Teakell or Ferrell."
On the team
"This has been the most resilient team and the most low-maintenance team I've ever coached. Guys like Keaton Jones, Derek Odell, Jeremie Fagnan, those are some of the very best people that we've ever had in this program. I told them last night, ‘I did not want you taking your jersey off until you're finished with this game and if you have to stay here until 3 a.m. then do it, but when you take your jersey off, it has to be over and done with.' So I felt like the guys did that and now its on to the next challenge."
Stony Book Head Coach Matt Senk
Opening Statement
"I am exceedingly proud of my team. Where we were at the beginning of the year, in the midst of another horrible winter, to coming down here and competing the way we did this weekend. I don't know if any coach could ask for more. As I told them, they should be very proud of themselves. They made their families proud, this coaching staff, this program, this department and our university very proud. They competed their butts off today and all week and that's what they were about all year. In the first press conference, people asked about Stony Brook baseball and I think that's another part of what we're about. We're always going to compete, anywhere and any time. I congratulate TCU. They're an outstanding team and they played an excellent game. They knocked out 13 hits and only gave up four. They made all the defensive plays, even the exceptional ones and came up with a big homerun. So, they played great and were a very tough opponent today. I'm disappointed in the result but not in the effort."
On the Evan Skoug homerun
"It never really comes down to one play, but that was a huge play for them. Coming off the bat, I first looked at [Jack] Parenty and thought he was going to get to it. It seemed like that was the one time the wind was actually blowing today, but he's a big, strong guy and it just kept going. To their credit, it looked like we had an inning ending double play prior to that and we weren't able to turn it and then they took advantage of it. Terrific job by him and it was a big blow to us."
Outfielder Toby Handley
On the Skoug homerun
"Honestly, I didn't know if it was going to stay in or hit the glove. I was running toward it and I didn't know I was going to have a chance at it, I was hoping it would go off the wall but it kept sailing and went over."
On the season "Throughout the season, coach always talks about getting better with each at-bat. He talked about improving after loses, playing better and getting better throughout the season. And we did that, even through this tournament, despite the tough loss today. I felt like we were playing really good baseball."
