Baseball Falls to Texas Tech

Texas Tech 9, TCU 4
Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech's Bryon Smith homered and walked twice, leading the Red Raiders to a 9-4 win over TCU Wednesday at Dan Law Field. The Red Raiders improve to 27-14 overall, while TCU drops to 22-16.
Tech jumped out to early 6-1, scoring single runs in the first and second innings, then two more in both the third and fourth innings. Nick Blankenship’s sacrifice fly drove in the first run of the game, then Austin Cranford doubled home a run in the second. Smith drove in two runs on a home run in the fourth.
The Frogs rallied for three runs late in the game. Jason Price led off the seventh with a double, then scored on Rudy Ontiveros’ RBI-single. Ontiveros scored on Kenny Thompson’s double to left center field. In the eighth, Erick Macha walked and scored on Walter Olmstead’s base hit. The Frogs stranded nine men in the game, including two in the sixth, one in the seventh and two more in both the eighth and ninth innings. Macha led the Frogs with three hits and a walk. Olmstead drove in two runs on a pair of base hits.
Tech added three insurance runs on a walked and three base hits n the eighth, increasing the lead to 9-4. Patrick Newburn suffered the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings. Matt Harbin earned the win. He allowed three runs in 6.1 innings. Blake McGinley finished the game to earn his seventh save.
TCU will return home Thursday, April 12 to host UTA in a single-game at the TCU Diamond. The Red Raiders will travel to Fort Worth on April 24.
