Baseball Tops Texas-Arlington

FORT WORTH - TCU's Walter Olmstead had four hits and Kenny Thompson drove in four runs, leading the Horned Frogs to a 6-4 win over Texas-Arlington Thursday at the TCU Diamond. TCU improves to 23-16 overall, while UTA drops to 25-12.
Olmstead doubled twice, singled and homered in five at-bats, while Thompson drove in four runs on two singles and a groundout to pace TCU's 15-hit attack.
UTA scored three runs in the second on a two-out bases loaded double by K.J. Hendricks. The Frogs picked up single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 3-3. Jonathan Marshall singled and score on Thompson's RBI-groundout in the second, then in the fourth Thompson's base hit drove in Rudy Ontiveros. Olmstead doubled and then scored in the fifth, when Tom Bates' ground ball went thru the legs of UTA first baseman Josh Jezek.
The Mavericks reclaimed the lead in the sixth, scoring one run on a walk and back to back base hits. TCU responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs on Thompson's second hit of the game. Olmstead added an insurance run in the eighth on a solo home run, his seventh of the year.
David Tombrella earned the win in relief. Tombrella struck out six in 3.1 innings, allowing one hit. UTA reliever Charlie Coffey suffered the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in 0.1 innings. TCU starter Chad Durham allowed four runs on six hits in 5.2 innings.
TCU will return to the TCU Diamond Saturday, April 14, when they open a three-game series against Hawaii.
