TCU struggles in Express College Classic

Round Rock -- Southwest Texas State designated hitter Cory Covert doubled twice and homered to lead the Bobcats to a 16-4 win over TCU Sunday in the Express College Classic. The Frogs are now 4-5 this season, while Southwest Texas improves to 6-1.
The Frogs took a 2-0 lead, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning. Justin Crowder singled and scored on Walter Olmsteads double. Tom Bates drove in Olmstead on a sacrifice fly.
SWT finally got on track in the fourth on a solo home run by Mark Younk. The Bobcats then scored two in the fifth, one in the sixth, four in the seventh and eight runs in the eight inning.
Covert doubled in the sixth, homered in the seventh and doubled again in the eighth. His seventh inning home run was a three-run shot. Younk reached base four times, including a double in the eighth. Overall, the Bobcats had nine extra base hits, including seven doubles.
The Frogs were led by Bates, who doubled twice, and Mike Settle, who had one hit to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Clayton Jerome suffered the loss, allowing five runs in two innings of relief. TCU starter Chad Durham allowed three runs on six hits in 4.2 innings.
The Frogs return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Huntsville to face Sam Houston State.
