HOUSTON (March 31) -- TCU's Chris Bradshaw befuddled Rice on four hits through eight innings, pitching the Horned Frogs to a 3-0 Western Athletic Conference baseball win Friday night at Reckling Park.
Bradshaw, a junior from Fort Worth, struck out eight and walked only one to even his record at 3-3. David Tombrella pitched the ninth inning, picking up his first save of the year to preserve the win.
TCU touched losing pitcher Kenny Baugh (5-2) for a pair of runs in the fourth, the runs scoring on a Tom Bates ground ball and a sacrifice fly by Marshall Wilson. Levi Groomer scored TCU's third run after his double in the seventh.
Rice's only real threat came in the eighth when singles by Brett Smith and Jason Gray, plus an infield error, loaded the bases with two out, but Bradshaw induced Jerry Van Noy to fly to right to end the threat.
The loss drops Rice to 16-17 on the season and 5-8 in WAC play, while TCU improves to 13-20 and 4-6.
The series continues Saturday at Reckling Park at 2 pm (CST).
