Hawai`i Defeats TCU Baseball, 6-2

HONOLULU (March 10) - Jamie Aloy scattered six hits in a complete-game performance, leading the Hawaii Rainbows to a 6-2 win over TCU Friday at Rainbow Stadium The Frogs drop to 7-15 overall, 2-2 in Western Athletic Conference play. Hawai`i improves to 11-11 this season, 3-1 in WAC action.
Aloy (3-1) allowed two earned runs on six hits, three walks and six strikeouts in nine innings. TCU starter Shawn Thompson struggled against the Rainbows. Thompson allowed six runs on seven hits and four walks in six innings, dropping his record to 2-2 this year.
The Rainbows scored four runs in the second inning on three hits, one walk and a hit batsmen. Rory Pico had the big hit in the inning, driving in three runs on a double down the left field line. Pico drove in four runs for Hawai`i.
TCU finally got on the board in the sixth inning, scoring twice on three hits. Ramon Moses singled and scored on Mark Hamilton's double. Jason Price singled to right field, driving home Hamilton. Moses led the Frogs with three hits, including a double. Hamilton doubled, walked and reached on a hit by a pitch. Price also picked up two hits.
The Rainbows answered with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, increasing the lead to 6-2. Kenn Wakakuwa doubled to open the inning, his third hit of the evening. Brian Bock and Darin Baker walked to load the bases for Pico, who grounded out to first, driving home Wakakuwa. Jackson scored on a passed ball, providing the final run of the game.
The contest was the 2800th baseball game in TCU history. TCU and Hawai` will continue the three-game series on Saturday at 10:35 p.m. central time. In other WAC action, Hawai`i-Hilo knocked off Rice, 7-6. The Owls defeated the Vulcans 5-2 on Thursday.
