Brunson doubles twice and drives in three
ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 10 TCU held off No. 7 Arkansas in picking up a 5-4 win over the Razorbacks at Globe Life Field in Arlington Saturday night. Chase Brunson tallied two doubles and drove in three while Noah Franco tossed three scoreless to lock up the win.
The Rundown
Noah Franco took over on the mound with a run in and TCU clinging to a 5-4 lead in the seventh. He retired nine of 10 batters faced, fanning four and walking one to pick up his first career save.
TCU raced out to an early 4-0 lead through two innings. Chase Brunson's first double of the game drove in Sawyer Strosnider for a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Rob Liddington came through with a two-out single to give TCU a 2-0 lead after one. A hit batter and a walk in the second came around to score on Brunson's two-out double.
Arkansas picked up run in the third to make it a 4-1 game, but TCU had an answer in the fourth to regain its four-run advantage. Cole Cramer delivered the eventual game-winning hit, driving in Lucas Franco for a 5-1 lead.
The Razorbacks made it a two-run ballgame in the fifth. Back-to-back walks to lead off the inning came around to score on a passed ball and a one-out double. Zack James (1-0) picked up a big strikeout to end the frame with the tying run at the plate. A lead-off home run in the seventh accounted for the final score.
James earned the win after allowing two runs on three hits in two innings. He walked two and struck out four in relief of Mason Brassfield. In his first start of the season, the left-hander when four innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He walked four and struck out six in the no-decision.
