Cadena hits eighth home run of the season
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Four home runs in the first three innings helped Oregon State build a 7-0 lead en route to a 7-2 win over TCU in the elimination game of the NCAA Corvallis Regional at Goss Stadium. Isaac Cadena hit the lone home run for the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
A double and a walk in the first set the stage for a three-run home run that gave Oregon State a lead it would never relinquish. Solo home runs to lead off the second and third innings pushed the advantage to 5-0. A two-out, two-run home run in the third gave the Beavers a commanding 7-0 lead.
The TCU pitching staff held Oregon State in check the remainder of the game, but the Horned Frogs were limited to just six hits and only drew four walks.
Trailing 3-0 in the second, TCU had a pair of one out base runners following a Chase Brunson double and a walk to Nolan Traeger. Back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat. Sawyer Strosnider's two-out double was also stranded after a strikeout.
The Frogs made it a 7-2 ballgame in the fifth. Anthony Silva led off the inning with a base hit and scored on the Isaac Cadena home run.
TCU's best chance to draw closer came in the seventh after a lead-off walk to Traeger and a Silva base hit. The Beavers turned an inning-ending double play.
Mason Brassfield (5-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out one. Braeden Sloan gave the Frogs five strong innings of relief.
