TCU hits five home runs in the game
The Rundown
After a disastrous first inning for the Horned Frogs that found them facing a 9-0 deficit, TCU fought back to eventually tie the game at 10. The comeback began with a trio of runs with two outs in the second. Jack Basseer got the Frogs on the board with his first home run of the season. Two batters later, Karson Bowen hit one off the foul pole in left to make it a 9-3 ballgame.
Three more runs crossed the plate in the third on Kurtis Byrne's first home run of the game to pull the Frogs within three, 9-6. Kansas got a run back in the bottom of the inning after the first two reached. Colt Taylor took over on the mound and got a double play ball to minimize the damage, but a run was able to score for a 10-6 Kansas lead.
Byrne's second home run of the game with one out in the fifth made it a 10-7 game. The comeback was complete with three runs in the seventh. Chase Brunson grounded into a bases-loaded double play to pull the Frogs within two. Luke Boyers' two-run blast tied the game at 10.
The Frogs worked out of a sticky situation in the seventh as the Jayhawks loaded the bases with two outs. Facing a 3-2 count, the Frogs went to the bullpen. Braeden Sloan (4-4) came on and got the strikeout to end the inning. It was not to be as Kansas retook the lead with a one out solo home run in the eighth.
Chase Hoover started and was touched four seven runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning. Taylor gave the Frogs 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed a hit, walked one and struck out two.
