
TCU Tops West Virginia In Championship Opener

Sloan tosses four shutout frames
ARLINGTON, Texas – TCU's pitching duo of Caedmon Parker and Braeden Sloan limited West Virginia to just three hits in guiding the Horned Frogs to a 5-2 victory in their opening game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships at Globe Life Field. Brody Green tripled and homered to lead the Frogs' offense.
The Rundown
Caedmon Parker (3-1) did a fantastic job in getting the start for the Horned Frogs. He allowed just two runs on two hits, worked around four walks and struck out a career-high seven over five innings. Braeden Sloan took over in the sixth and retired 12 of the 13 batters he faced. He allowed just one hit and struck out six to earn his first save of the season.
TCU opened the scoring with a run in the second. Brody Green tripled with one out and scored on a Chase Brunson ground out for a 1-0 lead. The Frogs doubled its advantage in the fourth as Karson Bowen drew a two out, bases-loaded walk.
A third run came around to score in the fifth as TCU loaded the bases with nobody out. Kurtis Byrne bounced into a double play, but a run was able to score for a 3-0 lead.
WVU pulled within a run, 3-2, in the bottom of the fifth on Sam White two out, two-run home run. TCU got the run back in the following inning. Luke Boyers led off the frame with a base hit. A two-out single from Chase Brunson made it a 4-2 ballgame. Brody Green's home run in the ninth accounted for the final score.
