HOUSTON – Cam Brown and Louis Rodriguez teamed up to help No. 10 TCU defeat Rice, 7-0, Sunday afternoon in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park. Luke Boyers and Tre Richardson homered for the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
Cam Brown (1-1) was excellent in throwing seven shutout innings against the Owls. He allowed just three hits, walked three and struck out eight. The junior never faced he more than four batters in an inning.
After allowing the first two hitters to reach, Louis Rodriguez settled down and retired the final six batters he faced to close out the game. He finished his outing with two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Frogs made the most of their hits. With two on in the second, Luke Boyers launched a three-run home run to left to give the Frogs a 3-0 lead. Tre Richardson followed with a solo shot in the third to extend the lead to four, 4-0.
In the fifth, Elijah Nunez was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a Brayden Taylor base hit. Karson Bowen made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly. Brody Green's two-run double in the eighth accounted for the final score.
Stat of the Game:
6 – Karson Bowen threw out his sixth runner trying to steal a base. Base runners are now 2-of-8 against the freshman.
